Sariska National Park
Sariska National Park is most visited park in India. It is well nestled in Aravali Hills. It spread about 800 sq. km. of area. Sariska National Park was declared a sanctuary in 1955 and became a National Park in 1979.
Sariska Sanctuary is larger then Ranthambore National Park but it are less commercialized and have less tigers but a similar topography. It is divided into the grasslands, dry deciduous forests, sheer cliffs and rocky landscape.
Sariska National Park is well known for its large population of Rhesus Monkeys. It is also home to various carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Hyena, Tiger, Jackal, Cat etc.
Sariska topography supports scrub-thorn arid forests, rocks and grasses. It has Kankwadi Fort within its boundaries. Kankwadi Fort was used by the famous Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb to confine his brother Dara Shikoh.
Sariska National Park is also well represented with a rich and varied birdlife which include Peafowl, Grey Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden backed Wood Pecker, Crested Serpent Eagle and the Great Indian Horned Owl.
The best time to visit the park is from November to June and the park remains closed during the months of July and August. Visitors need entry permits to get into the park. The permit is available at the Field Director office or at the Sariska's gate. Entry fees is Rs. 25 and additional charges are levied for cameras and vehicles.
