Pench National Park
Pench National Park is located in the southern part of the Satpura hill range in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts in Maharashtra on the border of the Madhya Pradesh. Pench was declared a Wiildlife Sanctuary in 1983 and it was included in Project Tiger in 1992 as 19th Project Tiger Reserve.
Pench National Park is named after the river that splits it in two sections. Pench National Park is spread over an area of 758 sq. kms. The most of the area of the park is covered by small hills and mounds.
The best time to visit this park is summer as many wildlife varieties come outside their natural habitat in search of water and waterholes in the park provide good views of the denizens of park.
It is blessed with forests spread in all the direction. The main flora being Saja, Bija, Lendia, Haldu, Dhaora, Aonla, Amaltas , Moyan, Mahua, Mokha, Baranga, Garari, Aonla, Kihamali, Khair, Palas etc. The ground is covered with a number of grasses, bushes, herbs & shrubs.
Pench National Park is also very rich in Fauna. There are 25 tigers under this umbrella of the Park. 39 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles, 3 species of amphibians and over 170 varieties of birds have already been listed.
The best time to visit the park is between February and April. Other important natural forests in Maharashtra like the Nagzira Sanctuary and the Navegaon National Park are also comparatively close to Pench.
