Bandipur National Park

Bandipur National ParkBandipur National Park is located in the Chamarajanagar district of southern Karnataka in south India. Bandipur was created in 1930 from the local Maharaja Voodiyar's hunting lands and it was named Venugopal Wildlife Park.

Bandipur National Park was expanded in 1941. In 1973, it has been designated as tiger reserve. It lies in the area of Deccan plateau which is the shadow of the Western Ghats.

The Bandipur National Park is covered with a mix of deciduous forests, evergreen forests and scrub, which is provided by the waters of the Moyar River. The major types of fauna in this reserve are the Asian elephant, gaur, sambhar, chital, mouse deer, four horned antelope, wild pig, black naped hare and the Indian porcupine.

Government of Karnataka provides spacious and comfortable accommodation at Bandipur National Park. Rates for accommodation are reasonable. The temperature varies from season to season but mostly ranges between 10 degrees and 35 degrees centigrade.

Entry permission for Bandipur can get at entrance to the park. Entry cost is Rs. 150 for foreigners and considerably less for Indians. Additional charges are levied for cameras, vehicles, and elephant or jeep rides. The ideal time to visit the Bandipur National Park is between the months of April and October.
