'Abu' according to a legend, stands for the son of Himalayan, deriving its name from Arbuada, the powerful serpent who rescued Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, from a chasm.

The hill station is famous for its many temples the most noteworthy being the Dilwara Temples of Jain origin. As per legend the Nakki Lake of Mount Abu was carved out by the Gods with their nails.
